Biography

Cameron Duncan is Dean of the Christine E. Lynn College of Nursing and CEO of the FAU/Northwest Community Health Alliance Community Health Center. Prior to joining �̲�ֱ�� Atlantic University, he served as the interim dean of the Orvis School of Nursing at the University of Nevada, Reno, where he led transformative initiatives that redefined the school’s mission and solidified its reputation as a leader in nursing education and health care services. His leadership drove efforts to strengthen academic programs, elevate teaching and research excellence through targeted mentorship and professional development, and foster a dynamic environment where faculty, staff, and students could excel.

Duncan brings a distinguished record of teaching excellence at both public and private institutions across Nevada, Arizona, Illinois, New York, and California. He has an extensive publication record, with numerous manuscripts featured in peer-reviewed journals, many of which he co-authored with his students. His research interests are particularly focused on the integration of mental health into primary care settings, advancing health care policy, advocating for the nursing profession, and addressing substance use disorders. He also is dually board certified as a psychiatric nurse practitioner and a family nurse practitioner and is also a certified nurse educator. Duncan previously served as an Advancing Academic Excellence for Deans Fellow with the American Association of Colleges of Nursing and was inducted as a Fellow of the American Association of Nurse Practitioners (FAANP) in 2023.

• Behavioral Health Access for Individuals Living with Dementia and Their Care Partners: 2026
  • Purpose: Funding will launch an Integrated Dementia Behavioral Health Program within our interdisciplinary Center. A Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner will provide dementia-specific psychiatric evaluation, medication management, psychotherapy, caregiver counseling and education for uninsured, underinsured, and financially vulnerable Palm Beach County residents, with closed-loop Unite Us referrals connecting patients and care partners to community resources.��

  • Purpose: To incentivize collaboration between nursing education programs and health care partners to combat the growing nursing shortage in the state. This grant was used to support undergraduate student scholarships.

  • Purpose: To expand integrated primary care and behavioral health at the FAU/NCHA Community Health Center, West Palm Beach.
  • Amount: $650,000
• FAU/NCHA Community Health Center, Establishing Comprehensive Mental Health Supprt: 2025��
  • Purpose: To enhance mental health care in primary settings by implementing universal depression screening, streamlining referral processes, and ensuring timely access to mental health providers for its anticipated 1,700 primary care visitors. Together, these outcomes will improve early identification and treatment of depression for patients who score positive on the PHQ-9 and are served by the FAU/NCHA Community Health Center.

  • Purpose: To create a student success program to support aspiring nursing students from American Indian populations and increase this population’s representation in the nursing workforce in Northern Nevada.

  • Purpose: To support four semiannual health screening and wellness events at high schools in local tribal communities. The events aim to increase interest, opportunities, and success for indigenous students to enter healthcare professions, specifically nursing.

  • Purpose: To expand undergraduate and graduate nursing programs within the NSHE system.

• Coronavirus State Recovery Funds, Division of Health and Human Services, Department of Child, and Family Services Grant: 2023
  • Purpose: Develop and enhance the nursing workforce to address unprecedented medical workforce shortages by providing scholarships to eligible Nevada Registered Nurses to enter a nationally accredited APRN program.
  • Amount: $3 million
• Renown Foundation, Orvis School of Nursing-Renown Academic-Practice Partnership: 2023
  • Purpose: To create and academic-practice partnership offering (1) a tuition support program including the total cost of tuition, fees, textbooks and immunizations to undergraduate nursing students at the Orvis School of Nursing, (2) certain nursing personnel to provide experiential training, and (3) clinical space.
