Archives of Caring Adds Two Nursing Scholarship Collections

The Christine E. Lynn College of Nursing has added the personal collections of nursing scholars Marian Turkel and A. Lynne Wagner to its Archives of Caring in Nursing. Donated by the scholars, the newly accessioned collections are now available to researchers.
The collections include original notes, correspondence, manuscript and theory development materials, raw data, and other records that offer insight into how nursing knowledge develops.
Among the materials are transcripts of interviews Wagner used to develop her theory. Because these primary data are preserved, future researchers may revisit them, apply different perspectives, ask new questions, and conduct secondary analyses.
“The collections help current scholars and researchers by providing access to materials that are not often available in published literature,” said
Cassandra
Boyer, associate director of research operations and curator of the Archives of Caring. “While we preserve these materials, we also support new scholarship.”
Turkel once wrote, “Remember the journey never ends; you only continue to grow.” Boyer noted that the sentiment is especially fitting for the Archives, where preserving one generation’s scholarship allows future scholars to continue learning from and building upon it.
Housed at the Christine E. Lynn College of Nursing, the Archives of Caring preserves the history of caring in nursing, encourages scholarly inquiry, and advances caring as an essential domain of nursing knowledge.
