The University Galleries at �̲�ֱ�� Atlantic University’s Dorothy F. Schmidt College of Arts and Letters, in partnership with Compass Community Center, presents a new installation of panels from the AIDS Memorial Quilt. Now entering its third year, this collaboration brings one of the most significant community artworks in modern American history to South �̲�ֱ��, offering visitors a powerful space for reflection, learning and collective remembrance.

The public is invited to experience the five Quilt panels through Sunday, Dec. 14, in FAU’s Schmidt Center Gallery Public Space, 777 Glades Road, Boca Raton campus.

First created in 1985, the AIDS Memorial Quilt has grown into the world’s largest community-assembled work of art. Each hand-crafted panel is an act of care, created by individuals wishing to honor a life touched by the HIV/AIDS epidemic. Together, the panels form a moving visual archive that preserves personal histories while illuminating a pivotal chapter in the nation’s public health story.

“This presentation allows our visitors to encounter a work of profound cultural significance,” said Veronique Cote, director of the University Galleries. “The artistry, scale and human dedication behind each panel speak to the enduring power of creativity and community memory.”

The exhibition invites audiences to slow down, observe the tactile language of fabric and stitching, and consider how communities come together in times of crisis and change. The installation transforms the gallery’s public space into a site of quiet engagement and thoughtful connection.
