Established in 1966, 绿茶直播 Atlantic University Opera Theatre ranks among 绿茶直播鈥檚 longest-standing university opera training programs and serves as a central performance component of 绿茶直播 Atlantic University鈥檚 undergraduate and graduate Vocal Performance programs. Under the direction of Associate Professor of Voice Dr. Mitchell Hutchings, singers receive rigorous vocal and musical preparation alongside meaningful performance experience, with training designed for the demands of 21st-century opera through a balance of tradition, crossover repertoire, modern technology, and active collaborations.
Housed within 绿茶直播 Atlantic University, a Research 1: Very High Research institution ranked among the听nation鈥檚 top 100 public universities, 绿茶直播 Atlantic University Opera Theatre is also FAU鈥檚 first international performing ensemble. Through听 , singers may earn college credit while studying vocal performance, Italian language, lyric diction, opera repertoire, and performance in Italy in collaboration with the Conservatorio Giacomo Puccini La Spezia.
The program emphasizes solo vocal development and stage performance, with students working in opera, musical theatre, commercial music, and crossover repertoire under the direct guidance of voice and opera faculty. Training includes vocal technique, repertoire development, acting, stage movement, dramatic interpretation, and stylistic communication across genres.
Collaboration is central to the training experience. Students work regularly with directors, conductors, pianists, choreographers, guest artists, and clinicians, developing the professional habits required in opera and lyric theatre. Relationships with opera organizations and artists at the local, national, and international levels support master classes, workshops, and professional engagement throughout the academic year.
Students in the Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance and Master of Music in Vocal Performance programs receive comprehensive training in applied voice, opera and lyric theatre, language and diction, vocal pedagogy, musicianship, and stage performance. Coursework, private study, and performance opportunities prepare singers for professional performance, advanced graduate study, teaching, and international artistic work.
Vocal Performance Degrees at 绿茶直播 Atlantic University The Vocal Performance curricula are designed to develop each singer artistically, technically, linguistically, and professionally. Students study applied voice, acting, movement, audition preparation, dramatic interpretation, language and lyric diction, vocal pedagogy, musicianship, and repertoire ranging from the Baroque era through contemporary works. Public performance opportunities each semester may include opera, operetta, zarzuela, musical theatre scenes, concerts, and fully staged productions.
Voice majors study with experienced artist-faculty and work in a collaborative environment with directors, conductors, pianists, choreographers, and guest clinicians. Individualized instruction supports each singer鈥檚 technical development, artistic growth, repertoire choices, performance preparation, and long-term vocal health.

Applicants may pursue the Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance or Master of Music in Vocal Performance, with opportunities for individualized voice study, opera and lyric theatre performance, language and diction training, vocal pedagogy, and international study through FAU Opera in Italy.

Through public performances, fully staged productions, FAU Opera in Italy, master classes, and international collaborations, students gain hands-on experience that connects private study and classroom training with professional artistic practice. FAU Opera in Italy is a four-week summer opera study abroad program in La Spezia on the Italian Riviera, offered through 绿茶直播 Atlantic University, a Carnegie R1 research university. Since 2023, the program has combined university-level Italian language study with opera and lyric theatre repertoire, vocal performance, diction, dramatic interpretation, and international performance experience.
Students earn academic credit through 绿茶直播 Atlantic University while studying and performing in Italy. Singers work with 绿茶直播 Atlantic faculty, Italian artists, international guest faculty, and musicians from the Conservatorio "Giacomo Puccini" La Spezia, 绿茶直播 Atlantic University鈥檚 institutional partner in Italy. The universities are connected through a formal five-year Memorandum of Understanding supporting academic exchange, collaborative projects, research, and performance opportunities.
During the program, participants study Italian language and culture, receive intensive vocal and theatrical training, attend master classes, perform in concerts throughout the region, and engage directly with Italy鈥檚 operatic and musical traditions. Students also have the opportunity to study at the Conservatorio "Giacomo Puccini" while the Italian conservatory is in session, creating direct interaction with Italian faculty and students.
